- I met my husband on MySpace.
- I’ve worked for a dating service, in a power plant, and for the federal government.
- I’m related to Francis Scott Key, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and William Wallace.
- I was a cheerleader twice. Once when I was 8 and again when I was 13. It didn’t stick.
- I’ve tried pretty much every sport once – soccer, ballet, gymnastics, basketball, etc. I wasn’t very good at any of them and much prefer to sit inside in my pajamas reading a book.
- I named my car Curtis (as in 50 Cent) and love rap.
- I got kicked out of baton class.
- Sometimes my memories aren’t what actually happened. That said, I’m pretty sure I remember being kicked out of baton class.
- I’m the oldest of four girls.
- I taught catechism classes for a year. 10 year olds ask a lot of hard questions.
- I played piano but my teacher didn’t like me because I could play by ear and didn’t know how to read music.
- Teen Court was a big part of my life. In 1995, it was a new concept and I spent 4 years “working” as a defense attorney. When I was grounded, I was grounded from Teen Court.
- I graduated high school with more volunteer hours than the computer allowed for. The max was 999 and I had over 1,000 hours.
- I’m a certified adult literacy tutor.
- I’ve been in four published books – once as a contributor, once as an editor, once as a feature, and once as a mention. Five if you count the Who’s Who.
- I was a big nerd in high school. I was on the debate team (we were, however, top 5 in the nation so we were kind of cool), president of Key Club, on the newspaper staff, and was voted by teachers for a program that gave me a permanent hall pass. It’s all about trust.
- For most of my life, I was (and probably still am) a contender for What Not to Wear.
- I love 80’s hairband music. If I could go back and be born a little earlier, I would have completely embraced the bangles and big hair more than I did.
- On my 12th birthday, I stood in line for 8 hours to meet Candace Cameron.
- I’ve met some cool people – Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx, Adema, Powerman 5000, Vince Vaughn, the cast of One Tree Hill, Hillary Clinton, and a few others. Oh, and I once did a shot with Steve from Jerry Springer.
- There are entirely too many photos of me eating cake in my childhood photos.
- I have my Master’s in Public Policy. I did my Master’s thesis on the value of sharks in North Carolina’s fishing economy under the advisement of a former Colorado governor.
- I once went on a tour with a band for almost a week. It was fun but gross.
- I own The Simple Life on DVD.
- I escorted my grandmother to South Carolina to meet up with her chatroom buddies in the mid-2000’s. Her roommate didn’t come because she got into an Internet fight with someone else in the group.
- I’ve seen every episode of Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU at least 5 times.
- I am very sarcastic. Sometimes it’s hard to tell between my “sincere” tone and my “sarcastic” tone. I know this because I was asked to read a poem in both tones during a class once and no one could tell the difference.
- I can say the alphabet backwards faster than I can forward.
- I’ve lived in FL, MA, NC, and CO.
- I had two weddings – one to make it legal and one to have a big party.
- I had two hip surgeries during undergrad – one on each hip.
- I love coffee. And naps. And tiramisu. And I like my rescue dogs more than most people.
- I’ve never seen Star Wars.
