March Favorites: TV, Books, and Websites

March 25, 2015 by Joy Cullinan 7 Comments

Another month is nearly over! It’s now well into the season that we Floridians call “hot.” The theme this month seems to have been awesome women, from Amy Poehler and Tiny Fey to my own sister! Now that is a good month.

TV Shows

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – If you’re a fan of The Office, Parks and Rec, and 30 Rock, you’ll love this Netflix original created by Tina Fey. It’s absurd and hilarious and Ellie Kemper is the funniest person who ever lived. I cried laughing more than once. Then I watched it again from start to finish.

Parks and Recreation – Speaking of Parks and Rec, it ended in February and I’ve never been more sad about a show ending, or more happy that the stars now have more free time to work on other projects. Amy Poehler, you beautiful, humble, clever golden sunflower.

Books

Audiobooks – I finally discovered audiobooks! Well, I finally discovered that my Audible free trial had turned into a paid membership…six months ago. So I went a little crazy with my…uh…free downloads. So far I’ve listened to My Story by Elizabeth Smart, #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso, and Yes Please by Amy Poehler. All were fantastic and sometimes inspiring listens.

Websites

Career Contessa – Dedicated to women kicking butt at their careers and inspiring others to do the same, this website profiles women who are leaders in their fields. It also features helpful articles AND job opportunities that you won’t necessarily find on other job search websites. I’ve loved reading about women whose jobs I’d like to have and learning how they got to that point.

Darling Magazine (also a gorgeous print magazine) – This one is a more general women’s magazine, but definitely not anything like the ones you may be used to. They don’t use Photoshop and they don’t promote unattainable bodies or lifestyles. Their mission, to be “a catalyst for positive change,” is fully embodied by every article and photograph.

Misc.

Hiking – If it’s still cold where you live, just close your eyes and pretend you’re in the Bahamas. For the rest of you, get out and do some hiking! I’ve been loving getting out into nature, bird watching, and getting eaten alive by bugs. In fact, writing this has inspired me to get outside and take some pictures of alligators this weekend.

Headspace – I mentioned this app in my post last week and since then, I’ve started the free “Take 10” program over again. It’s a nice reminder to take some time for yourself every day, even if it’s just ten minutes at a time. And remember, it’s Emma Watson-approved!

This blog – I’ve had an absolute blast working with my sister and taking on a new challenge unlike just about anything I’ve done before. Thanks for welcoming me into your world and sticking with me as I figure this blogging thing out!

What made you happy this month?

Is it starting to feel like Spring where you are?
