It’s National Dog Week!

September 28, 2013 by Allison Hiltz 16 Comments

Every year, National Dog Week creeps up on me. I always tell myself that next year I will bake my pups a peanut-butter-carrot cake but it never happens. Okay, I’ll confess – I’ve baked them treats before, but it’s usually on a random day because I forget the big ones (except birthdays/rescue days).

This year, however, I am going to celebrate National Dog Week by immortalizing my furry friends on the internet. Plus, grad school has keep me pretty busy and I’m a bit behind on my reviews, but that’s neither here nor there…

About Oliver and Penny: Both are rescues and both were on the put-down list, which is crazy because they are both fantastic animals. Oliver is pretty chill and only gets excited about red meat and stuffed duck toys but Penny gets excited about everything. Both are crafty – Oliver opens doors (even the pull ones, much to the dismay of a certain Red Roof Inn employee a few years ago) and Penny can get into any container of foodish items. But I love them to pieces, anyway.

Here they are:

Oliver is cool rocking the sunglasses, right?
Penny all bundled up!
Penny on the first day we got her. She was super sick and a little torn up 🙁
First beach day
We all know they just want the hot dog in my hand
This was the photo when they realized they weren’t getting a hotdog yet.
Another beach pic
We’re big Gators fans in this house
Oliver could really care less about being outside
Penny loves being outside
Oliver’s first ice cream. Did you know that Dairy Queen will give you a free cup for your pup?
If you look closely, you’ll see that Penny accompanied me on this trip
Penny and her duck
My husband moved to Denver three weeks before I did and this was how Penny watched him drive away. Talk about heartbreaking!
Road trip to the Badlands
Did I mention we take a lot of road trips?
This was right before we kicked off our shoes and waded into the water
First snow day for the pups!
Delicate Oliver needed shade at the fishing pier
Stopping at South of the Border for our first trip to Florida
Beach day!
