Keep It! 5 Purchases That Were Totally Worth It

December 21, 2016 by Allison Hiltz 13 Comments

2016 was a big year for big purchases in our household, and I must say, they were all worth it. After a year of hunkering down and saving like crazy, my husband and I were finally able to purchase our first home. Because were were so thrifty for so long, we made up for lost time with a few purchases to complement our new home (okay, maybe some of them were just for fun…). Here are 5 things I bought in 2016 that I have absolutely zero regrets about (and recommend you pick them up, too). Thanks to Andi over at Estella’s Revenge for the #IRegretNothing and #AMonthofFaves hashtags! (This post includes affiliate links)

The House

Yes, the house is by far the biggest purchase we made this year and it was absolutely worth it. Not only is it more economical and better for our financial future, we love it. Rumor has it that the average homebuyer in the Denver-metro area bids on 7 houses before they get one, but we got lucky because we got our first pick. Naturally, we had to buy a few little things for the house, such as a dining set, area rug, and love seat, but we kept most of our original furniture and will upgrade as you go. And in case you were wondering, the library is a pale mint green.

Samsung PowerBOT 9250

Okay, this one was a bit ridiculous but boy, oh boy, is it a great investment. This robot vacuum (dubbed ‘Sam’) manages to keep up with the immense amount of dog hair that falls from my dogs’ bodies. I don’t know how they manage to shed so much, but they do, and Sam keeps our house nice and clean. The time it saves us vacuuming makes it worth every penny.

Kate Spade Agenda Book

I happen to think that the Kate Spade agendas are expensive, although planner junkies may disagree, so I’m surprised I actually bought this. I saw it at a local Papyrus store and opted not to pick one up, only to lust after it online for a few weeks before finally deciding I had to have it. So far, I’ve been really good about using it and getting my money’s worth, so for the time being, I regret nothing.

Saltwater Aquarium

Last year, I thought it would be fun to get an aquarium. I picked up a 30 gallon and a few fish and figured this would be my new hobby. It turns out my hobby has become my husband’s hobby and we now own a 120 gallon saltwater aquarium. It’s a beast to take care of (not that I do much of that, now that my hobby has been hijacked) but it’s absolutely gorgeous and we love looking for new corals to add to the mix.

iPhone Plus 7

One of the reasons I was able to get the PowerBOT vacuum is because I got some amazing gift cards back when I upgraded my phone to the new iPhone 7 plus. I wasn’t sure whether the phone would live up to the hype but I was interested in upgrading to a larger screen and subscribe to the “go big or go home” model, so here I am. Turns out, it is worth much of the hype and it makes blogging and managing my day-to-day life so much easier. I’m sure there are a million tips and tricks I haven’t figured out yet, but I still have time.

What did you buy in 2016 that you love?
